Life-altering, medically complex injuries or conditions such as limb loss or amputation may require daily, round-the-clock rehabilitation care before you return home from a hospital stay.

Recognition

U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals†ranks Rusk Rehabilitation among the top 5 programs in the nation for rehabilitation.

At ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ’s Rusk Rehabilitation at Tisch Hospital, we are dedicated to providing the highest level of individualized care you need to achieve your recovery goals.

A physiatrist—a doctor who specializes in rehabilitation medicine—is at the helm of your rehabilitation team. Along with our other experts, including physical and occupational therapists, he or she works to customize a treatment plan for you while you are in the hospital. We take into consideration not only your medical and physical needs but also your personal wishes so the program is truly yours.

Our rehabilitation nursing team—including a nurse manager, a primary registered nurse (RN), and a patient care technician (PCN)—cares for you 24 hours a day and helps you prepare for therapy sessions.

Conditions We Treat

Our rehabilitation experts work with people who have been hospitalized with pulmonary conditions and cardiac conditions and require 24-hour care. These specialists also see people who need access to multiple services because they have had medically complex procedures such as amputations, face transplants, heart transplants, lung transplants, kidney transplants, liver transplants, and bone marrow transplants.

Rehabilitation Therapy Services

Excellence in Rehabilitation

Our acute rehabilitation program at Rusk Rehabilitation at Tisch Hospital has been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

To begin a rehabilitation program, you must be physically able to participate in therapy for a minimum of three hours a day. Everyone receives both physical therapy and occupational therapy. Depending on any additional needs, you may also receive speech–language pathology and swallowing therapy and vocational therapy, as well as care from psychologists and social workers. Our therapeutic recreation services are designed to support emotional healing and include music therapy and art therapy.

We also provide on-site hemodialysis for people who have kidney failure, so that you can receive your rehabilitation therapy and regular hemodialysis treatments in one convenient location.

After you finish your inpatient care, your rehabilitation team assesses whether you need outpatient care services at one of our ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ ambulatory care locations.
