At ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ’s Helen L. and Martin S. Kimmel Hyperbaric and Advanced Wound Healing Center, our specialized team of surgeons, wound ostomy nurses, physician assistants, social workers, and others are dedicated to all aspects of wound healing. We especially strive to provide the highest standard of care for people with diabetes and disabilities, and for seniors. Our philosophy is that every wound can be healed with a customized treatment plan.
Our wound center offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), which is a type of advanced treatment that involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber to aid in healing. HBOT increases the concentration of oxygen in your body tenfold to rapidly speed the healing process. It is used to care for specific types of nonhealing wounds, such as diabetic foot ulcers, soft tissue radiation injuries, and chronic bone infections.
We are one of the only wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy centers in Manhattan, giving you access to a team of experts who can provide a range of advanced surgical and nonsurgical treatment options, all at one location.Â
When you first visit us, we take a complete medical history, and one of our specialized team members performs a physical examination to diagnose your wounds. Our experts create a comprehensive treatment plan, and work with your primary care doctor and referring specialists to ensure a team approach to healing your wounds.Â
Our wound center is a state-of-the-art, patient-friendly, outpatient facility that uses the most current technology, such as noninvasive devices that can precisely measure the level of oxygen in your body tissues, known as a transcutaneous oxygen monitor.
We also offer vacuum-assisted closure, or negative pressure wound therapy, which uses a vacuum applied through a sealed dressing to draw out fluid and speed the growth of new blood vessels to the injured area for faster healing. In 2015, we added a new wound-healing method called epigraft, which uses a patient's own cells from a skin graft to heal their wounds without surgical operation.Â
Other treatments include wound debridement, or removing unhealthy tissue from the affected area to help promote healing; tissue-engineered grafting, a type of surgery where we apply newly grown human skin cells over damaged tissue to stimulate the growth of new tissue to heal a wound; free tissue transfer, where we transplant healthy living tissue from another area of the body to the wound for a more aesthetically pleasing result; and limb reconstruction.
Our extensive team of specialists, innovative treatment techniques, and advanced medical equipment make us one of the top wound-treatment centers in New York City.
Our team provides the most comprehensive, innovative, and compassionate care possible.
