Recovery & Support for Atrial Fibrillation & Atrial Flutter

At ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ’s Heart Rhythm Center, our cardiac electrophysiology team provides ongoing support to people who have received treatment for atrial fibrillation (AFib) or atrial flutter. This includes follow-up care after catheter ablation or placement of a left atrial appendage occlusion device. Our cardiac electrophysiologists collaborate with your cardiologist to help manage your care.

Postprocedure Care

After you return home from the hospital, a doctor from the Heart Rhythm Center is available any time through our 24-hour answering service. Please contact us at 212-263-5555 if you have any questions or concerns.

Psychological Services and Stress Management

Your doctors and nurses understand that anxiety and depression can sometimes accompany heart rhythm disorders. Your care team can refer you to a psychologist or social worker for therapy or group sessions to help you cope. Family members and significant others are encouraged to participate as well.

Experts at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ’s Center for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease offer a variety of techniques, including yoga, massage therapy, and acupuncture, to help reduce stress. Specialists at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ’s Joan and Joel Smilow Cardiac Prevention and Rehabilitation Center help you develop a plan for maintaining your heart health, including exercise and stress management.

Nutrition Guidance

Lifestyle changes can help to prevent or manage arrhythmias. Registered dietitians offer a nutritional evaluation and help you make healthful dietary choices. They also help you better understand the impact of diet on conditions that affect the heart. These include diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and heart disease.

Occupational Therapy and Cognitive Therapy

Sometimes, a cardiac event, including stroke, can cause cognitive problems, such as memory loss. These problems can affect your ability to work or perform daily activities. Cognitive and occupational therapists at Rusk Rehabilitation can help you to improve your ability to function, so you can better adapt to any challenges you may be experiencing.
