Heart disease—including coronary artery disease and cardiomyopathy and heart failure—remains the leading cause of death in the United States, and with so much differing heart health information out there, many people don’t know what to believe.
Binita Shah, MD, an interventional cardiologist and associate director of research for the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, is featured on Science Insider’s “Debunked” series to break down 12 of the most common myths related to your heart.
In the video, Dr. Shah addresses diet, exercise, and lifestyle myths, and discusses the dangers of chest pain and heartbreak. She shares the importance of knowing your numbers—including knowing whether you have high cholesterol or high blood pressure—and seeking medical attention immediately if you develop sudden, new symptoms of a heart attack. “If you’re not feeling well, come on in, and get checked out,” says Dr. Shah.
