Peter E. O’Neill, MD, has been named chief of the Division of Dermatology at NYU Winthrop Hospital. Dr. O’Neill will serve in this capacity concurrent with his role as a dermatologist at a private dermatology practice in Garden City, where he has served the needs of thousands of patients in the local area for 20 years.
A graduate of St. Bonaventure University and Georgetown University School of Medicine, where he received his medical degree, Dr. O’Neill completed his internal medicine training at the Georgetown Veterans Affairs Medical Center and a residency in dermatology at Wilford Hall Medical Center—the Air Force’s largest medical facility, located in San Antonio, Texas.
Upon completion of his residency, Dr. O’Neill served as a member of the dermatology medical team at Wilford Hall Medical Center where he was actively involved in the teaching of dermatology residents. In addition, Dr. O’Neill was the officer in charge of the phototherapy unit and the Pseudofolliculitis barbae (PFB) Clinic. Prior to that, Dr. O’Neill was a flight surgeon at the United States Air Force (USAF) Hospital at Castle Air Force Base, delivering primary care to Air Force flyers and their families.
Dr. O’Neill has received several prestigious honors from the USAF including a service medal for his service during Operation Desert Storm; an achievement medal for outstanding performance as chief of dermatology residents; and a commendation medal for demonstrating excellence while serving as the officer in charge of flight medicine. In addition, he was recognized by the American Academy of Dermatology with the Leadership Circle Bronze Award for outstanding volunteerism, and by the Town of Hempstead and the Rotary Club of Garden City for generously donating his time and services to the community.
Dr. O’Neill is a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Dermatology. A fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, Dr. O’Neill is also an active member of the Long Island Dermatology Society, where he currently serves as secretary and will assume the post of vice president in 2012. He is also a member of the Nassau County Medical Society, the Medical Society of the State of New York, and the Nassau County Medical Reserve Corps.
Dr. O’Neill resides in Garden City, NY, with his wife, Diana. They have one son, Colin.
