Honorees Claudia Lyon, DO, Carla Solomon & Antonio Magliocco Jr. Celebrated for Their Years of Dedication
NYU Lutheran hosted its 133rd Annual Dinner Dance at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan on Wednesday, April 6. Emceed by Gus Rosendale, NBC 4 reporter and anchor, the charity event was attended by more than 500 guests and raised $800,000 to support the expansion of NYU Lutheran’s emergency department.
This year’s honorees, Claudia Lyon, DO, section chief of family medicine at NYU Lutheran, Carla Solomon, trustee of Ƶ Health System and member of the NYU Lutheran Advisory Board, and Antonio Magliocco Jr., president of Bulldog Ventures Ltd, were celebrated for their years of dedication to the institution.
The recipient of the Sister Elisabeth Fedde Medal of Service, Dr. Lyon was recognized for her 28 years of commitment to patient care and leadership excellence at NYU Lutheran. The award, named after the Norwegian deaconess who laid the foundation for NYU Lutheran in 1883, was established to recognize individuals who carry on her legacy of service and commitment to the community.
Emma Graeber Porter, chair of the NYU Lutheran Advisory Board, addressed the audience during the award presentation and said, “This is our time, and it is the opportunity for us to really live out the dream that was envisioned for this hospital 133 years ago.”
With the rapid expansion of institutions on both sides of the East River, attendees spoke proudly of being part of the new clinically integrated healthcare provider network for the New York metropolitan area.
“Make no mistake, this merger is a game changer,” said Robert I. Grossman, MD, the Saul J. Farber Dean and CEO of Ƶ Medical Center. “All people—poor, rich, and middle class—deserve the highest quality healthcare and that is what NYU Lutheran will offer.”
A highlight of the evening was a video presentation that portrayed NYU Lutheran’s deep roots in community-based healthcare, and the merging of two world-class institutions. Featured in the video along with the dinner dance honorees were Kenneth G. Langone, chair of the Ƶ Board of Trustees, Dr. Grossman, Ms. Porter, and NYU Lutheran President Claudia Caine.
“This has truly been an inspiring night,” Ms. Caine said, addressing the Dinner Dance audience. “I hope you can see why I believe so strongly that our partnership with Ƶ has positioned NYU Lutheran to become the hospital of choice for the borough of Brooklyn.”
